St Andrew’s Berwick Uniting Church in Australia is 161 years old in 2018. Started as a church plant from Cranbourne as Berwick Presbyterian Church, it has been active and faithfully served the Berwick and districts community ever since. The name ‘St Andrew’s’ was added in 1937 to commemorate its Scottish and Irish heritage. In 1977, it joined with other Presbyterian churches and the Methodist Churches in Australia and many Congregational Churches in Australia to become part of the Uniting Church in Australia. Today St Andrew’s Berwick is a happily multi-cultural church of all ages, with diverse activities and community groups operating. These include 9 am worship participatory worship and Kids Church, the 10.30 am traditional service, a monthly Holy Communion on first Sundays and first Thursday (2 pm) bi- monthly, bible studies during the year and a separate Friday morning study in Fiddlers Green Lodge Library Gloucester Ave Berwick 9.30 am ).
We weekly Playgroup Thursdays 9.30- 12 noon, Church Choir on Wednesday 7.30 -9 pm in the church, monthly UCMF meetings, Friendship and craft group, and many weekly local groups including Alcoholics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, the Ad Lib Drama group etc.
The minister in placement is Rev Wendy Snook, a former exploration geologist who was part of the Argyle diamond mine find, and during her 30 years of ministry, has worked with nine congregations, in two presbytery (regional) positions in two states of Australia, and was the first female Defence Force Chaplain in Australia, (RAAF Special Reserve 1991-1996).
Our Family and Children’s Worker Mat Pendle is also a Primary School Chaplain, who has a Bachelors of Theology and is from a hospitality background.
